Following Your Intuition & Why An Ayurveda Wellness Coach may be for you
I have been “working on myself” for decades, chasing the elusive goal of health and wellness physically, mentally and spiritually by doing all of the diets, workout plans, fad habits and such. Sound familiar? God it is exhausting thinking we are some project or problem to fix. Give me the next course or supplement or work out plan or challenge or new job or vacation and then maybe I can feel better. Can I just finally feel better, please? You know how this goes.
This was my life. Feeling like I needed fixing becasue something didn’t feel right inside - physcially, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. Like many of us I am pretty good at fake it till you make it (maybe). A significant turning point for me was my multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2009. Of course this changed me - a single parent facing an uncertain disease that often had a mind of its own for many. Strangely though, I did not feel fearful and I think, looking back, this was an important factor in the path of healing that was unfolding for me. For a couple of years I gave myself a daily injection, rotating around seven key locations around my body because of the damage to the tissue of the injection site. Each time I had to administer this shot, I cringed inside. Something did not feel right to me. What else could I do? At the time I had no clue the psycho-spiritual roots of disease. I began to explore what it meant to have inflammation in my body, its causes and suggestions on how to mitigate it. MS is a disease of deteriortation of the myelin sheath around the nerves. Inflammation is a key factor. And despite an outrageously expensive drug and my active lifestyle, a vegetarian and junk food free diet, I was beginning to decline physically and mentally. I could not sit for more than 10 minutes, I could not stand for more than 10 minutes. My joints ached, my brain was fogged, my digestion was in the crapper…literally. I was exhausted. Then, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and prescribed another medication and sent on my way. It was not the medication I was told. It was the MS. It was now fibromyalgia as well. Nothing to do about but inject and hope.
I did not know, at the time, what it meant to truly listen to my intuition with trust. This has been conditioned, ridiculed and burned out of us, particularly as women. Yet something was screaming at me loud and clear and I could not ignore it. I needed to stop injecting this poison into my body. Against the advice of my doctor, I did just that. Cold turkey. I was done. I promised myself and others that if there was a progression of the disease, I would resume the medication. But for the time being, I would continue to pursue lifestyle and diet choices (as well as end a toxic relationship) that I hoped would make a difference. All I had at my disposal was what was mainstream marketed.
This was over 10 years ago. While the journey to health and wellness of mind, body and spirit has taken some time to deepen with this last year being most transformational, listening to my gut to protect my body against the prescription of mainstream medicine saved me. I am convinced of it. It took only weeks for my physical discomfort to subside. And to this day I have no symptoms. I was given a diagnosis that no longer applies. I really had no idea what I should be eating or what habits would truly benefit me. As you may well know, it's confusing out there with so many contradictory sets of musts and shoulds and a market full of products that promise peak health. I fumbled along but at least I was keeping any progressing symptoms at bay.
So what about this past year was so transformational? I joined The Shakti School and have now become a certified Ayurveda Wellness Coach. It was the path and wisdom of this ancient healing system that has finally brought me home to true healing, to the ways of feminine form, folk tradition medicine that is rooted in nature. This is an ongoing journey - not a destination I have already reached. Yet I know my body, my heart, my spirit more deeply than ever. I can look back and clearly see what was impacting my body back in 2009. I wish I had an Ayurveda Coach back then! I am thankful I have now been able to coach myself to a place of balanced health and well-being. Even more so that I can offer this support to others.
So how could working with an Ayurveda Wellness Coach benefit you? Because each person is unique, your work with an Ayurveda Wellness Coach would be unique as well. The process involves a detailed intake of information, patterns and habits, an evaluation of your constitution of physical and psychological features and tendencies, an examination and analysis of current imbalances as reflected in presenting symptoms and a heart to heart about current lifestyle and habits. As your coach, I then support you by developing a journey plan of habits, practices, eating guidelines and recommendations, spiritual practices and mindset shifts. We meet regularly to incrementally implement this plan as I coach you through the process. I draw from a vast toolbox of wisdom and practices, both ancient and modern, that are customized to your unique circumstances. And the transformation begins to happen.
This is a commitment, no doubt. This is a badass approach to your health and wellness because it may call into question some of your beliefs about wellness and challenge you to consider new habits that feel like they go against the grain. I make sure you understand the Why behind each recommendation and support you every step of the way. I’ve got your back.
Ultimately, this is a reclamation of the divine feminine ways of healing that is our birthright. A regeneration of our inner soil that is inherently whole and healthy. It is time we truly begin to heal.
